Chanel Coco vs Chanel Trendy

One of my favorite things to do is talk, compare, and review luxury from skincare to handbags and so much more. Today we are going to focus on two very popular and similar Chanel bags.  The Chanel Coco Handle and the Chanel Trendy! Both are classic and timeless, but let’s see which Chanel bag will end up being the best for you!

Do Chanel Bags hold their Value?

Chanel bags not only hold their value, but their value can increase year after year! Chanel bags are made in limited batches making them harder and harder to get your hands on them. There are several ways to make sure your Chanel bags hold their value or even increase over time. Taking care of them is crucial. Keeping them looking new is the best way to make sure they don’t depreciate in value. I take extra care of my Chanel bags because even the smallest blemish can decrease the value. You’ll want to ensure that you know how to properly clean, store, and maintain your bag. I keep the inside of mine clean and organized by using my favorite SLG’s! This allows the interior to stay clean since products don’t directly touch the inside of your bags.

I also recommend keeping all the original Chanel bag extras like the box, dust bag, and certificate. I store all my extras in a safe place just in case. When kept in excellent condition, you may be surprised to see your Chanel bag go up in value year after year.

Today I’ll be reviewing the Chanel Coco Handle bag and the Chanel Trendy bag in the small size. Both of these Chanel bags continue to increase in price year after year so these are good examples of bags that can increase in value.

Chanel Coco Handle Bag

The Chanel Coco Handle was my first purchase between these two bags. I’ve had this bag on my wishlist for years. I was waiting for the perfect color and finally found it. It’s definitely on the more structured side since the top strap is on the stiff side. It also has the added option of a non-adjustable chain strap. You can wear this bag two ways, top handle without the strap and with the strap added to wear on the shoulder or crossbody. I love this bag when I want to look a little more polished. Its classic silhouette is perfect in a professional setting. Of course, you can dress it down, but I love this style for a more polished look.

The inside is surprisingly roomy for the small size. It has two main compartments. A larger one in the front and a smaller one in the back, separated by a smaller zip compartment. There are also a couple of pockets in the front and a zip pocket in the back. I rarely use these but love that the bag offers some organization if needed. You can see in the video below that my top 5 handbag essentials fit perfectly.  My sunglasses case(with sunglasses inside), my 6-ring key holder, a zipper pouch(my purse junk drawer), my mini wallet, and my iPhone 13. All of these items fit in the Chanel Coco bag comfortably so the size is great for every day. I could probably add a little more but these are all I really need daily.

When it comes to style, I love this bag! It’s more polished and structured but I love having these styles of bags in my collection. I also feel like this is classic Chanel. It’s a must-have if you are a handbag collector. Will I get more from this line, probably not but so glad I have this on.

Chanel Trendy Bag

Next up is the Chanel Trendy! I’ve been lusting after this bag for years so I knew when I found it in the perfect neutral it would be mine. With that said, I did hesitate for a minute on this one after I bought the coco handle. I wasn’t sure if it would be too similar. It definitely has a similar shape but a totally different vibe IMO. The trendy is a little more casual, and more effortless. Of course, I got it in another neutral, what can I say, I love my neutrals. But even in a similar color as the coco handle, it’s very different and I am so glad I have both.

The first difference you’ll see is that the Chanel Trendy bag is a little smaller than the coco handle. They look very similar too! One key difference is the chain strap on the Chanel Trendy is not removable and the top handle on the Chanel Trendy has some movement. It’s not a stiff strap like the one on the coco. It doesn’t fall flat but it will move and feels softer in your palm.

The interior of the trendy reminds me so much of the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis, it’s definitely smaller but has a similar setup. The inside is split into 3 compartments. To front compartments of similar size and one smaller in the back. This bag also has a back zip pocket and some smaller pockets in the front. Again, rarely use these but they are there.

The get a better idea of size, I decided to put the same 5 handbag essentials in the Chanel Trendy.  You can get a better idea of how they fit in the video below but spoiler they didn’t fit comfortably. I had to remove my sunglasses from the case and leave them sitting on top. So, this bag is a little smaller but my essentials still fit.

I also like to point out the hardware, that’s one of the main differences. Both bags have the same classic cc clasp, but the trendy bag has a lot more hardware due to its well-known bar across the top. This added detail is well known for this particular style. I love the look it gives but is a lot more careful with this bag to prevent scratches. The leather on this bag is also much softer so I am naturally a little more careful with all of my soft leather bags. I do think over time my trendy will show more wear because of the softer structure, softer leather, and metal bar.

Make sure to check out the full video below to dive in a little deeper and see both bags. They really are both beautiful bags that I enjoy having in my collection. You can’t go wrong with either, it’s more of a personal preference. Which one is your favorite?
